Stalag VIIIB/344 Lamsdorf
Miscellany

Arriving at Stalag VIIIB / 344
Many of the Prisoners arriving at Lamsdorf were transported by rail in cattle trucks, and we unloaded at a railway halt about a mile from the camp, at a hamlet now known as Sowin, but in those days called Annahof. The railway halt is still there, and trains to and from the nearby city of Opole sometimes stop there. In a garden next to the platform are some of the original cattle trucks, kept since the end of the war, and used as a garden shed. This picture was taken during our Lamsdorf trip in September 2010. The picture below is of the Sowin Railway Halt. The cattle trucks are on the right of the picture, by the big tree.
