Domingo Altarriba
A Spanish POW at Lamsdorf
Domingo Altarriba was a young Spanish republican from San Vincente de Castellet in the Province of Barcelona, who volunteered for the French Foreign Legion in 1939. He served in Algeria and Morocco and was captured at Wadi Kébri in North Africa in January 1943 and at first imprisoned in Italy, then briefly transferred to Stalag VIIIA Goerlitz before being taken to Stalag VIIIB Lamsdorf where he was from October 1943 until the evacuation of the camp. After being liberated by allied troops he was repatriated to France and finished his service with the Foreign Legion in October 1945. His daughter, Núria Altarriba Vigatà, is anxious to find out more about her father’s time at Lamsdorf.
