Lance Corporal John Cain
John CAIN Lance Corporal, 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment Army number 3524694 was captured at Dunkirk 27 May 1940. He was a POW at various camps including Spangenburg Castle, Stalag Luft 3 (at the time of the Great Escape) and eventually 344.
I am trying to piece together why as a corporal in the Army he was sent to camps primarily for Aircrew and RAF Officers. He also boxed for the Army and I am interested if there are any mentions of him in camp boxing competitions. At the end of the war he ended up in Czechoslovakia at a place called Stradoun and I am trying to find out why he was there. I believe he also returned to Prague after the war to give evidence in a war crimes hearing.
