My father was captured during the Battle of Crete where he spent several months as a PoW before being shipped in the cattle trucks to Stalag VIIIB, a trip that took 15 days. He arrived there in January 1942 and later repatriated as a Medical Orderly in October 1943 having worked closely with Dr Selwyn de Clive Lowe who played a major part in dad’s life. One of my brothers is named after this doctor, who dad credits for saving his life, not sure how but it is linked to his repatriation somehow. He was part of a working party E96, a cardboard factory in Krappitz. His PoW Number 5256 and he was in the New Zealand Army, 27th Machine Gun Battalion, 36250.
