My name is Esther Mclenaghan, my grandfather William Charles Jupe was a POW at Stalag 344 from 1943 – 1945. His POW number at Stalag 344 was 33492, his army number was 973510 and he was a Gunner in the Royal Artillery. He was part of the 97th Field reg R.A when he was captured. He was originally captured by the Italians but his POW camp (Campo 73) was taken over by the Germans in 1943. He was then transferred to Stalag 344.  I think he remained there until 1945 when he was liberated by the Americans. He spent some time at the Lazerette camp hospital suffering from bronchitis in 1944. He made a scrapbook/diary after the war which contains a few photos from Stalag 344. I have attached these photos!

Some of the photos are of the church at Stalag 344 and are on the ‘Church and Religion’ post.
