Subject: Rupert Collin KerrI am researching my grandfather’s war records. He was a POW at Lamsdorf, imprisoned in April 1942. His records state he was in Stalag VIIIB, POW number 30369/202. I found the top of a letter addressed to him at E173.
His army serial number is NX5998 and he served as part of the 2/4th Australian infantry battalion. His name was Rupert Collin Kerr. He was captured in Greece I think but I cannot find any details for where he was captured exactly and then how he got to Lamsdorf or what he did while at Lamsdorf. He survived the war but was not healthy. I remember my aunty telling me she saw my grandmother redressing wounds on his back and he died in 1956, never very healthy.
He was also part of the great march or long march etc. I would like to know where he marched and that may help clarify some details of his journey home for me. He never spoke of the war, and I would love to know my grandfather who I never got to meet a little more.
