My godfather was Lawrence Lovelady. He was one of my uncles.
He was a navigator and NCO (Sgt)

He was in Stalag VIIIB as I have at least one postcard from the camp written in pencil, which was in my parents’ possession, that I still have. I think he was originally in Sagen and moved to Stalag VIIIB, as he was shot down earlier in the war over Belgium or the Netherlands.

He survived the death march and never really talked much about the war, but he went on to become a teacher after the war in a primary school in his native city of Liverpool. He loved music and even conducted a bit, I believe at the Liverpool Philharmonic.

He passed away many years ago.

Phil Harris.
