Patton, D
Private D Patton
My Dad was captured at Saint-Valéry-en-Caux, on 12th June 1940 with the rest of the 51st.
From the little he told us, it would appear that he would volunteer for farm labour camps etc where they could get a few vegetables to eat. He was pretty fluent in German and I remember him singing ‘Silent Night’ in German to us when we were wee boys at Xmas. I think he helped out as a translator as well. He ended up on the ‘Long March’ and remembers running into American troops.
