Taylor was one of the prisoners at Lamsdorf who assisted in escape attempts by swapping identities with someone else. Most of these were army POWs who were assigned to working parties outside the camp. Air Force POWs were not included in the working parties, but as it was considered easier to escape from a working party than from the main camp, identity swaps were arranged from time to time.
