I believe my father, Sgt. Andrew J. Bird, Essex Scottish, was a POW at Stalag VIIIB, captured at Dieppe Aug. 19, 1942. He may be the “J. Bird” in your list of names, referenced in the Clarion 5/13. My father died in 1973 when I was 15. We weren’t close when I was a boy, but he would never talk about his war experiences, or his time as a POW. What little I know is from a box full of mementos he kept that I’ve had for decades. Only in recent years have I begun to examine the documentation, his accounts of his captivity/mistreatment when applying for payments from the Canadian Govt. in the ’50s, and the letters he wrote home while a POW. There are more resources on the web, such as your website, to help those who are interested in research. I would be interested in learning of more resources, and/or being in contact with Dieppe/Stalag VIIIB survivors
