Contemporary Account/Diary

Ewanyshyn was in D Coy and was from Oakburn, Manatoba. His name appears in Joseph Moskowitz’s diary.

My father, Michael Ewanyshyn #B67864, p.o.w.#26933, was with the Royal Regiment of Canada, when he was wounded and captured on the beach at Puys, near Dieppe, France.

He spent over a year at Stalag VIIIB before being repatriated in late October 1943.

When he returned home to Canada he had to have his right leg amputated [below the knee].

If there is anyone out there who remembers him and/or has any photos of POWs in a hospital near/at Stalag VIIIB. I would appreciate hearing from you. Some guys referred to him as “Big Mike”.
