My father James Meekin of the Durham Light Infantry Number 4449738 was in Stalag VIIIB. His P.O.W. number was 1547/XXIB.

According to Red Cross records he arrived there 5-6-1941 and from tales he told was freed by the Americans but I do not know where that was from. He did talk about a march in the snow but until just before his death he never spoke of bad times. Even my mother new nothing of some of the treatment he endured until then.

I enclose a photo taken in Stalag VIIIB plus a document awarding him a medal from the Y.M.C.A. I have never seen this medal and the Y.M.C.A. cannot give me any information of its shape or size. If you know anything about it I would be most grateful.
