Ives, D
Private Denis Ives
Information supplied by Diane Ives Lewis
My father, Denis Ives, was at Stalag VIIIB. He was captured at Dieppe during the raid on the morning of August 19, 1942, and sent to Lamsdorf. He survived the March but spent some time recuperating in a French hospital after being rescued by the Americans. He died at the age of 57 years, in 1971. After the war, instead of returning to Canada, he settled in England. In 1967 he, with his wife and 5 children, emigrated to Canada. It was not the country he had left. He was a very broken person, likely still suffering from those wretched war years and captivity.
Here are his army details:
B-36805, Private
Royal Hamilton Light Infantry
