Subject: Pte 3851439 Harry Lofthouse 1st Bn The Border Regiment My father Pte 3851439 Harry Lofthouse was captured at Lille in France on the 27th May 1940 and spent the next five years as a POW. He was in  in Stalag V1/B for a short period before being transferred to VIIIB/344  on 18th June 1940. He was involved in working parties  at Cosel for an unknown period of time . The conditions in the camp and the nature of the work he was involved in caused him to suffer from heart strain from which he died in 1963 as a relatively young man
