George was called up as member of the Territorial Army in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His time with the Territorials may have been linked to his work which was at Consolidated Pneumatic Tools in Fraserburgh

The Gordon Highlanders were part of 51st Highland Division.

Whilst a POW he was put to work in a stone quarry, then moved to a camp near Dresden and put to work in a salt mine. My great uncle was treated for tuberculosis in hospital in Dresden for a year before being re-patriated.

Data source: Fraserburgh Herald dated 2nd Nov 1943 stated that he had been repatriated after being in hospital for about a year. He was treated by an Australian doctor there.

My late father said that he was watching Pathe news at the cinema in 1943 when he saw his uncle George disembarking, he ran home to tell his Granny (George’s mother).
