Herbert Henry (Harry) Williams
Herbert Henry (Harry) Williams was a member of the New Zealand 26 Battery 4th Field Regiment.
Leaving NZ in January 1940 he was captured after fighting on Crete late May 1941. By November 1941 he was POW number 7782 in Stalag VIIIB Lamsdorf.
He remained a prisoner until force marched west in 1945. With others he slipped away at the Czech village of Vamberk, and witnessed the Russian arrival there. As a result they decided to make their own way west eventually reaching Prague.
During captivity a good friend was Lawrence Edmonds (UK). Thanks to recent research by Mr Roman Janas (Czech Republic) we now also know that Harry worked at Niklasdorf and at Setzdorf labour camps, alongside Lawrence Edmonds.
