My late father Capt G.C.T. Burns was a medical officer in the New Zealand army and was at Stalag VIIIB Lamsdorf / Stalag 344 from Nov ’43 to May ’44.

He described it as a working camp for a coal mine, with 300 English (most of whom had been in France), and his medical colleague was Polish.

After repatriation to England in May ’45 he completed a MI9 qestionnaire and used the name “Erika Grube”.

Does anyone have information on the use of the name Erika Grube?

I plan to visit the Lamsdorf/Lambinowice area in June 2009 as I retrace my father’s POW odessy.
